An Apple Betty, also called Apple Brown Betty, is a baked dessert of spiced apples layered with sweetened, buttered breadcrumbs. It is an old American dish, with the name appearing in print in the 1860s, and it was a clever, thrifty way to use up stale bread and orchard apples. Simpler than pie, it
