Cats are the most popular pet in the world by number, with an estimated 600 million domestic cats globally. They were domesticated from the Near Eastern wildcat (Felis silvestris lybica) roughly 10,000 years ago, likely in the Fertile Crescent as agricultural settlements attracted rodents and the ca
